"what would you do if you won the lottery" (Therapist)
"I would spend all my time here (Rehab and Retreat)" (Client)
"I was impressed with Rehab & Retreat from the moment I stepped in the door to check it out and see if it would be a good fit for my father. The place is airy & open, with excellent natural light, and with great attention given to making one feel at ease.
During the initial interview, Keltie took considerable time to understand where my father is at (he has dementia), including the particulars of the way it’s affecting him and to explain what Rehab & Retreat can offer to help. I was left with a sense that Keltie & Chelsea have a deep understanding of the condition and an earnest desire to be of service to the people who have it.
Based on a comfort level gained through the initial interview, I decided to give Rehab & Retreat a try. Keltie & Chelsea were very welcoming to my father and made him feel right at home. When I picked him up at the end of the day I found that he was in a very good humour and with a bit of a twinkle in his eye. Although he could not recall exactly how his day went, it was clear that he’d spent it well and done some very meaningful things."
"Having assumed responsibility for our father – who has middle stage dementia – and having moved him from his own home into a retirement community, my brothers & I were faced with the challenge of finding meaningful ways for him to spend his time. It was suggested that we could look into a day program – something that he could go to once or twice a week. My research into available day programs – and what they could offer for my father – led me to try out Rehab & Retreat.
I was impressed with Rehab & Retreat in that they are able to offer a combination of meaningful activities and useful therapies for my father. This differs greatly from some of the other programs that I investigated. Keltie & Chelsea have taken the time to develop considerable understanding both of my father’s deficits and his remaining abilities; as a result they have been offering him challenges that build on his strengths / reinforce his confidence and therapies that assist him in remaining largely independent. On more than one occasion – when I have picked my father up at the end of a day – I have been very gratified to find him engaged in a project making a gift for one of his grandchildren, and see a look of purpose / satisfaction on his face.
The care staff at the retirement community have remarked to me that they find my father to be much more alert / engaged since I began taking him to Rehab & Retreat. I myself find that his outlook has improved dramatically and that his disposition is much brighter."
